Hi all I'm new here and I have a quick question.

Is it possible to have semi-perfect pitch (or something)? I'm asking because usually I can hum some notes from memory but I can't recognize them most of the time when I hear them. I can hum a C# and a G within a quarter of a semitone usually unless I just heard a song in another key or something. Like when I wake up in the morning and try to hum them I can almost always do it. And because I have those 2 notes in my head all the time I can usually hum any other note by using relative pitch... If I can do this will I be able to learn how to recognize those notes when I hear them and then learn other notes as well? Basically what I'm asking is do I already have some form of perfect pitch (or at least a small head start)? Or can everyone do this :P

By the way the C# is because I hear/play Mozart's Sonata in A Major a lot and it's the first note, and the G is because of the Imperial Death March as well as the 'Exploring' theme from the TV show Lost :P

Yep you are well on your way to having musically usable PP. Remember many things are not digital/discontinuous even though we often think of them that way to make things simple. Perfect pitch isn't ON or OFF.

It's the same as the "when a fetus becomes human" that many "pro-lifers" indulge in talking about. It's a continuous subject that is impossible to put in discontinuous terms of human or not human.

I would highly encourage you to read about this phenomenon here - http://www.animal-rights-library.com/texts-m/dawkins01.htm

Read about the laws of memory

Everything you have learned has been committed to memory. Pitch is not different.
