Well my goodness! You mean David Lucas Burge has been duping us this whole time?! You mean I won't be able name any note or chord by EAR or improvise like a pro after finishing his course?! Well fuck! Thank goodness for the FREE book (yeah book.) and CD though, those most certainly made it all worth it.

I thought the Burge course was amazing and completely worth it. I don't have fast enough perfect pitch to identify every note, but it is good enough to grab the key (or a note here and there) and use relative pitch for everything else. It took me over two years of 15 minutes to an hour per day to get to this level. All the reviews that say it don't work are from lazy fucks. They are the same fat pricks that say diets don't make them thin and blame their genes. Hmm... I got it.. Maybe they should actually follow the diet instead of reading about it and then eating gallons of ice cream because they can afford to since they are now nutritional experts. People are amazingly proficient at lying to themselves and blaming others for their failures. They can't possibly be the reason for their failure.

Figure out what you want out of life, set some achievable goals, use your brain, and quit fucking bitching.

Well said Tinnitus. I agree that Burge's course is very helpful and it just takes time and patience. Lots of it.

I am however curious about your ability. If you heard any song on the radio or somewhere, you could just pick out notes? I can only do this when I hear piano. I've tried with songs, but I'm clueless.

If it has the standard distorted rhythm guitar sound, I usually can. It is very tough skill to learn and not worth it to pursue it in my opinion. Most of us are students, have jobs, and don't have time to dick with perfect pitch. Time spent playing an instrument or studying music theory with relative pitch will be far more rewarding. I believe it is important to do some sort of ear training every time you pick up your instrument, but perfect pitch may not be the first thing you want to learn. Learning how to identify chord progressions by ear is the most important thing in music. After that, it's the rhythm. Then follows melody and harmony. subsequently, melody and harmony are much harder to hear than the rhythm and progression. In my opinion students shouldn't start with learning monotonous intervals and end with chord progressions. They should start with chord progressions and rhythms, step down to scale degrees, then learn intervals. Then if they choose they should learn to identify the type of chords and study perfect pitch. But as a side note, I play popular easy music like metal, pop, rock, and funk. Maybe your path will differ if you are pursuing competency in classical music.

I'll leave you with an incredible song I just found - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDUH7S8vtjQ&feature=related
If you are a fan of Nightwish (I am), you will see that the guitarist and singer from that band are in this one (I love Emppu) It's too bad Nightwish lost Tarja. Annette really sucks live for Nightwish, and I cannot stand the way she looks like she wants to be doing something else at concerts. Tarja had so much more stage presence. At least Annette works at it and gets a good recording for the album.

After looking around, I guess that is more or less how Jazz students study. Classical students are the ones who do counterpoint, intervals, etc.

haha Tinnitus your first post is sexy. Now, that doesn't mean I don't take issue with Burge, but yeah I most certainly did gain a working knowledge of scale-degrees from Burge's PP course and SOME perfect pitch. I say 'some' because note recognition is not always perfect pitch. All the ppl who whine and complain on Amazon didn't do the drills, plain and simple. Still, I cannot help but think Burge something of a douche -- if only based on his fucking stupid advertising methods alone.

Well yeah considering that Tarja is a classically trained opera singer, it really is no surprise that she has double the stage presence of Anette. Still, I find it hard not to love Anette, especially when she is singing the genius of Night Wish. And though you are right in saying that Anette lacks stage presence, she is more versatile in other ways that Tarja is not -- something Thomas must have recognized in choosing her over many thousands of others.

Yes Tuomas recognized that she was hot. hehe I thought Tarja was way hotter though. I hate Annette live. The studio stuff with her is still amazing though. I love her Amaranth singing with Nightwish.

Thanks for the song link that was good
